“Warrior’s” Split Horn q
Headdress, Blackfoot, ca. 1870.
A Blackfoot warriors’ split
buffalo horn headdress with
40 ermine tail drops across the
back. The headcovering is made
of tanned buffalo hide and
trimmed with red trade cloth.
The horns are rubbed with
colors derived from iron oxides
and attached to the headdress
with a string of blue glass pony
beads interspersed with brass
hawk bells.
