THE PAMPLIN COLLECTION:
Mongolian Saddle, ca.
1800. Since before the time
of Genghis Khan (1162-
1227), the Mongols of
eastern Central Asia have
been great horse people
and nomads, not unlike the
Indian tribes of the Great
Plains and Plateau in the
18th and 19th centuries.
This is a wooden saddle
with inlaid silver and semi-
precious stones. Next to it
are two brass stirrups.
